46th INTERNATIONAL GUITAR COMPETITION "F. SOR"

  1. The competition is open to guitarists of any nationality born after 31/12/1982.
  2. The deadline for entries is 30 April 2018.
  3. The competition will consist of three phases:
    • First round: 23 May- at  9,30;
    • Semi-final: 24 May - at  9,30;
    • Final: 25 May - at 19,30;   
  4. PROGRAMME
    First round:
    1. F. Sor Three Studies of the candidate's choice from op. 6 or op. 29 or both.
    2. F. Sor: Introduction Thema and Variations or A Theme and Variations or Fantasia of the candidate's choice.
    Semi-final
    1. A programme of the candidate's choice, total duration of around 20 minutes, of original music for guitar of the twentieth century.
    Final
    1. A Sonata orSonatina of the candidate's choice from the following composers:
      A. Josè - J. Turina - M.M.Ponce - M. Castelnuovo Tedesco - F. M. Torroba - J Rodrigo.
    2. One Composition by E. Granados or I. Albeniz(Transcription of the candidate's choice)
  5. All stages of the competition are open to the public and may be broadcast on television.
  6. The Jury, consisting of international personalities, will judge according to an arithmetical points system at the end of each round. (This will be the average of points awarded by each individual judge, excluding the highest and the lowest) and each
    judge's decision is final.
  7. PRIZES
    • First prize "F. Sor":
      Euro 3000 and a concert in Madrid organized by the Sociedad Española de la Guitarra;
    • Second prize:
      Euro 1.500;
    • Third prize:
      Euro 1.000;

    Entries must include the following:
    1. The program the candidate intends to perform during each of the three rounds
    2. Current C.V.
    3. A recent photograph
    4. Entry fees

  9. Candidates must present themselves (with valid documents of identity) at 9.00 on 23rd May at the Accademia di Spagna (Piazza S. Pietro in Montorio 3, Roma "Gianicolo") for the drawing of lots for order of performance.
  10. Relatives of members of the Jury will not be eligible to participate. Any member of the jury who has taught privately or publicly any candidates in the two years previous to the start of the competition, will abstain in any discussion pertaining to, and from awarding points to, those candidates such abstention will be specified in the written report.
  11. Any candidate who for any reason whatsoever is not present at the place and time indicated above, forfeits his/her right to participate in the competition.
  12. By signing the subscription form the candidate agrees to all the general conditions in the rules and regulations.
  13. Each candidate will personally receive confirmation of his/her participation in the competition.
  14. All rounds of the competition including the prize giving ceremony will be held at the Reale Accademia de Spagna (Piazza S. Pietro in Montorio n. 3 Roma "Gianicolo").
